Ely Loving
Ely Loving is a young Arkansas-based folk/Americana musician whose songs are fast-paced and fun while also carrying deep soulful lyrics. Ely served in the Air Force before pursuing his dream of becoming a singer. He has one single on Spotify and the rest of his music on SoundCloud. He has been performing in local shows around Arkansas.
This was my second photoshoot for a stranger, and honestly, the first one had not gone very well, so I was slightly nervous. When I got to the location in downtown Little Rock where we were supposed to meet, he was nowhere in sight, and I was hoping he would show up. To my relief, he pulled up a little late, and we got to take these awesome pictures to reflect his personality and music style.
One of the first things that Ely said to me after getting out of his car was "I want these photos to be weird man" I honestly did not know what to think about that and told him that we would start with some more basic shots. After snapping a few boring pictures I was ready to move on to something more creative. We tried a bunch of different ideas and I think that these photos really showcase what it looks like for two creative minds to work together I was able to accomplish much more than I thought I could with these photos and I am proud of how they came out. I had fun trying to come up with creative shots and bend the norms in these pictures. Ely was great to work with and his ideas and suggestions for shots brought this shoot together.
Ely brought his wife along for the photoshoot, and it was fun to see their cute interactions. She did not want to be in any of the pictures; she was just there to support Ely and his work. Throughout the shoot, she gave him pose ideas and encouragement, fixed his hair, and was just generally supportive. My favorite thing about working for people like this is those little interactions and getting a one-hour look into their lives that I would never have gotten otherwise.
